Brand naming exercise
Here's a SMS I sent a friend on topic of brand naming.
If Innocent (smoothies) is because they don't mistreat your fruit, this is _____ because _____. Do that with 50x cool brands and you'll "get" evocation over functional brands.
(reminder to self!)
Email filters
Previously having blogged my approach to email, and my social media filter, what I've really wanted is a good place to share how one handles their mail—thus far, nothing exists. I've lots of ideas, but am busy on my next startup. I've shared them with a few friends, who've been suitably impressed. If you're not, please share your filters (if I can improve mine—great!).
Note: project specific filters have been removed, often they'd filter an email into a specific label and the service filter defines what I want to happen, i.e. Unfuddle.
Note 2: if your companies address is being auto deleted, please fix your unsubscribe button.
Note 3: some filters are split into multiple because you hit a character limit in Gmail.

You're not in the 'web industry'
Like paper, a technology from circa 105 AD. You use it within your business. You wouldn't say you're in the paper industry.

24WaysToStart.com
This is a real quick post, if you follow me on twitter you'll already know, skip this post :-)
We (Josh & I) launched 24WaysToStart.com, the "The advent calendar for entrepreneurs". We're doing a different blog (and different author) for each day of advent. Check it out.
Just to clarify, I'm still a hard atheist & don't actually celebrate Christmas.
Spam, Ham & Bacon
Google release Priority Inbox, awesome—well not quite...
Anti spam: you have your inbox. In that lands spam & ham. Spam is removed & you're left with ham.
Priority Inbox: you have your inbox. In that lands spam, ham & bacon. Spam is removed, bacon is removed & you're left with ham. You can get your bacon; it was just moved...
Why isn't spam & ham being removed? I just want my bacon.
iPhone wallpaper
I'm betting that if someone can see you & has been introduced (as such) they're more likely to return the phone. Anyone know any metrics on this?
Download the template (made a point of not using the areas which get covered by incoming notifications)
I really don't understand how this happens!
I can't understand the thought that went into this.
Obviously at some point there was 1 sticker, "Automatic door" & there was confusion because it wasn't an automatic door. Rather than remove the sticker or replace it with correct instructions someone decided it would be better to add another...
Moron.
Growth v0.3
Following up from my post Quant Based Marketing for Startup v0.2 I decided to take things somewhat further & have added:
- post-campaign metrics
- basic finances
- notes (ideas your future expansion)
- viral coefficient metrics
- basic visualisations
As ever, I'm all ears for feedback, this time especially around visualisations (I'm at home with numbers, let me know what graphs you'd like to see)
Checkout the spreadsheet http://bit.ly/ah68Qj.
Enjoy :-)
p.s. thanks to @noahkagan and @nickwsmith for initial feedback
Update: it's now a Google Docs template
Nexus One to iPhone 4, what I miss (updated)
Since Froyo I decided to trial my Nexus One again. I moved back to iPhone a couple of days ago. I miss:
- Facebook & Twitter integration to Contacts
- Google Streetview with compass
- Google's Push, way better than Apple's
- Tethering over Wifi (without paying for what you've already paid for!!)
- IMAP client with Gmail's Archive & Edit Labels features
- The Facebook app will sync to Contacts to some degree
- Tethering via USB & Bluetooth work on Vodafone (UK) without paying again for what you've already paid—much better than O2!
- If you add a Gmail account rather than IMAP you can get an Archive feature, though I personally don't want to use POP3
